Hi, I’m Cathy Mazak, and it’s my passion to mentor brilliant academic women to publish more. It took me a while (and let’s be honest–the birth of my first kiddo) to figure out how to manage my academic life so that I not only published more, but enjoyed it. After figuring this out myself, and teaching others through one-on-one coaching, I developed the Academic Woman’s Writing Roadmap to teach you how to do it, too.

When I got my first tenure track job, I was so happy. Dream job! I’ve finally made it! It didn’t take me long to realize that the struggle was just beginning. How was I supposed to research and publish with the gazillion other things I was also expected to do? And even though I had a great advisor, she wasn’t there by my side to answer all my questions. So I had to learn how to get it all done baptism-by-fire style.

But I truly believe that you shouldn’t have to go through that struggle. That’s why I developed the Writing Roadmap.

I’m a tenured professor with three kids, two edited volumes, and a bunch of academic articles (including my latest one in Anthropology and Education Quarterly–so excited about that!). I have a PhD in Critical Studies in the Teaching of English from Michigan State University and I’m currently a tenured full professor at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, where I teach undergraduate courses in linguistics and direct the graduate program in the Department of English.

I’ll guide you along the Writing Roadmap, a 7-stop path that begins with developing your academic mission statement, walks you through the creation of a publication pipeline, and culminates in a one-year plan to have your most productive (and happy!) academic year ever.

Module 3: Manage your time  

Learn academic time management from an academic mom of three. The big take away? Everything takes time.

-Corral email and social media so it stops sucking up so much of your day.

-Prioritize student interactions so your best energy goes to students when they really need you.

-Choose projects based on how much time you realistically have, instead of how much time you wish you had.

Module 4: Develop your writing system 

Develop a writing system that works for you.

At the end of this module you’ll know how to…

-Choose between three different writing systems, or create your own hybrid by combining systems.

-Adjust your writing system to the ebb and flow of the academic semester.

Module 5: Manage your mindset

Curb writing anxiety and guilt, and learn how to cope with imposter syndrome (it happens to the best of us). Oh, and we’ll cover money blocks, too.

Is this course for me if I'm still a PhD student?

Yes! PhD students will learn A LOT about how to manage their lives as academics. This course is not only excellent preparation for life with PhD in hand, the skills you learn will help you as a PhD student as well. You’ll be WAY ahead of the game!

Plus, you get life time access to the course, so you can do it now and then go back to it to brush up at any point in the future.

How many hours will I need to dedicate to this course?

The number of hours that it will take you to complete the modules will vary somewhat by module. I’ve included 5-week, 4-week, and 2-week completion plans in the program so that you can choose what’s right for you.

Do I get individual feedback on my assignments?

If you register for the One-on-One tier, yes, I will give you individual feedback on assignments. For the Self-study and VIP tiers, you’ll get feedback by posting in the Facebook group. There you’ll get feedback from me as well as the other members of the group.

How do I know which tier (Self-study or One-on-One) is right for me?

You will be able to adapt every lesson to your specific field and institution, and you can count on my help and the help and your classmates in the Facebook group for support in doing so.

Sure! The default audience of this course is women, but anyone is welcome to participate.
